Tree Shredders: The Ultimate Removal System

When construction first begins, there are usually many things in the way of building. Trees, brush and an assortment of other vegetation is likely to be in the way. While this can all be bulldozed and burned, this is no longer an accepted method of land clearing, nor is it cost effective. Bulldozing areas of land leaves permanent damage and unsightly scarring, not to mention severe erosion problems since all ground cover has been eliminated. Tree shredders allow for rapid and efficient disposal of these obstacles, without the need for burning or even over clearing the area.

There are two different types of tree shredders: construction attachments and stand alone machines. For the majority of contractors, the attachment version is the way to go, since it can be quite costly to buy a machine that only does one thing. The attachments allow you to turn another construction machine, such as a bulldozer or skid steer loader, into a mulching machine. This is very beneficial, essentially turning one machine into two and you can use machinery which you already own. The attachment is considerably cheaper than the full machine, though if you will be doing large amounts of clearing, you may opt for the actual tree shredding machine.

The advantages of using a tree shredder are many. Perhaps the biggest selling point is that they are eco-friendly. There is no smoke from burning and the mulcher allows for clearing small to large areas of land without tearing the earth up and leaving permanent scars. Since this eliminates the need for expensive landscaping and replanting after the construction is completed, the mulch clearing technique offers a lot of benefits and savings to the land owner, as well.

When choosing a tree shredder, it’s important to look at the size. While this will obviously depend on the machine you will be attaching it to, you’ll also want to ensure that the tree shredder attachment is able to handle trees in the area you plan to use it. If you routinely clear old growth forest, then the shredder will need to handle some pretty large trunks.

It’s easiest to deal with a mulcher that can handle large trunks, since the time involved in cutting up larger trees is cost prohibitive. There are many sizes of attachments, however, many of which are strong enough and large enough to handle old growth trees which may require a little extra effort to remove. Since the tree shredder will work to remove and shred anything in its path, it’s a good idea to be sure it can handle the workload.

Whether you use a tree shredder machine that works on its own or a construction attachment that does the same thing is up to your budget for new equipment. Now that this is a more popular method of clearing land, it is an excellent investment. More and more land owners are requesting these environmentally friendly methods of clearing the land, so it’s worth it to have one on hand.
